Day 1 of New Project
Already we hates the POV preciousssss.

After writing the last several books in 1st person POV, I thought I'd switch back to 3rd. I've never had a problem with 3rd (or 1st). I can write just fine in one character's head - it's when I write multiples that I get stuck or bogged down.

So I shouldn't have a problem yet, since everything is still in one character's POV.

But I am. I hate it. It sounds unnatural and awkward, and I'm not really quite sure what to make of it. It could be any number of things. It's early book, so it's bound to suck anyhow, right? It could be that I'm out of practice with 3rd and it'll be fine by the time I type ...

Or it could be that third is really wrong for this book and I'll figure it out halfway through, much to my eternal chagrin.

Decisions, decisions.

Also! I could not find any good icons to fit my new book. Not a good sign.

Good luck with the new proposal. It'll all click together when you least expect it. For me, it's usually when I'm trying to fall asleep. :/

I sincerely hope so! I hate it when the book isn't clicking.

OMG! After writing 4 books in first person and then going back to third limited for the new book . . . it felt EXTREMELY awkward. It took me a long time to settle into the third POV.

So, I'd say that you shouldn't blame it on the book being wrong for third person just yet. I'd keep working in third for a while, to see if the awkwardness wears off. It did on mine, and I think things worked out well (althtough my editor hasn't weighed in on this yet).

Yeah, I'm sincerely hoping that it's just initial awkwardness (and thank goodness I'm not alone!). It used to be that I'd write 1 book in 1st person, 1 book in 3rd, etc, back when I was simply writing for myself, or writing with the intention of selling.

Since I sold 2 books, everything I've written for the past 4 novels has been 1st person. So it's very weird to sit down again and read through as 3rd.

I'm hoping it only takes a little time to adjust!

LOL- I LIKE your icon! Rich has a statue of Kiani on his dresser- the base lights up....another Turner creation! ;)

Sorry to hear the problems about the POV- I have a hard time with that too when I DO try to write (hence, me no writee--me get ANGRY)

I'm having a hard time shifting back to third person, too. I think partly in one book it was due to tone; writing too light. I rewrote to edgify it and it's much better. It still feels kind of distant, but I really need to be able to do multiple POV in these books, and I don't want to shift from one 1st person POV character to another, or 1st to 3rd. It can be done well, but it's not what I want here. I'm sure as I sink into character, the POV will flow better. Hopefully that'll be true for you, too.

When I started the most recent WIP, it was my first time in first person--possibly ever in a serious work. I wasn't even sure it was right, but what I discovered was not that 1st person wasn't right, but that I hadn't yet found the MC's voice.

So yeah, it could be a host of things. I hope you find the right voice!
